Nice 747SP glamor shot over Washington State posted by Qantas tonight.
Way more from this series of shots, plus some production and in-service
photos of this airplane at the awesome AussieAirliners site:

That’s a beauty. I’d love to see a Qantas 74, closest I ever got was this A380 a few years ago at DFW.
I actually contacted the guy who runs that site a few months ago. I was trying to ID a Qantas airliner in the background of a photo. Guy knows his stuff.

Yeah I saw the Retro Roo go over once in Renton, have seen a couple of QF 747s at LAX/SFO. They look good, but the 747SP in that delivery livery is still my favorite.
Yeah I love that website, it’s like a rabbit hole.

I’ll take the SP in any livery.

I think it’s cool how sleek and modern that logo still looks 40 years later - apparently that is original livery.
The logo has changed a little since then, but I’d say I prefer the old one.
I’m not some patriotic roo-lovin’ weirdo, but QANTAS did a good job of using it as a symbol of our country

Yeah I love the gold cheatline and the big SP’s everywhere. I’m not a huge fan of the all-white-save-for-the-tail look of most airlines these days, though Qantas is much better than most of them.
Yeah the kangaroo thing was a brilliant marketing strategy, especially given that most Australians seem to find them annoying.

Yeah it did look great, I especially liked it in
the grey UA scheme. The initial and billboard PA liveries also looked great.

Fry’s had a pretty one.
And the one belonging to the Sands Casino was also quite lovely.

freaking love the SP and its freakishly large tail.

Yeah Sands has a pretty ecclectic fleet, though every time I’ve been to McCarran both SPs have been there, so I’m not sure they get much use anymore.

Yep, it’s like a little cartoon airplane for real life.

T hat must be Camano Island in the background? SPs are cool... hod rod of the original 747 fleet.

Yep Camano and a piece of Whidbey. Yeah I always liked the SPs, the ridiculous proportions make me happy for some reason. It’s hard to believe they were really the stopgap for the 767 ERs
.

So much engine, so little airplane...
